ODYSSEY BJJ
YOUTH SQUAD

The Odyssey BJJ youth program has over 150 students across 4 clubs with 18 youth coaches, led by a committee of experienced Jiu Jitsu practitioners and overseen by Head Youth Coach and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, Adam Larkin.

The Odyssey BJJ youth program has been developed over the past 12 years and combines a wide range of self-defence techniques with the competitiveness of sport Jiu Jitsu in a friendly, safe environment.

While the students will learn effective self-defence skills, the ethos instilled at Odyssey BJJ is to avoid the fight at all costs and, if physically attacked, defend themselves by deploying techniques which will control and subdue the aggressor.

The overarching principles of the youth program is to improve students’ confidence and social skills by developing their ability to deal with physical situations in a controlled and structured manner.  Students will also benefit from improved fitness, flexibility, and coordination.

All classes include sparring under highly controlled conditions and the watchful eye of the coaching team.  Sparring is optional but encouraged, as is the best way for students to see their growth and improvement first-hand.

Classes are split by age and ability to ensure that class learning objectives are easily met and neither too challenging nor too easy for the students.  Younger students are taught techniques through fun, games-based teaching and progress to more complicated techniques and sequences when the time is right.
